What Is Emotional Freedom, And How Do I Get It?
We are wired to feel. We are supposed to feel. Emotional freedom is the ability to let go of uncomfortable, distressing emotions as they arise, because let’s face it – life happens.
Sometimes we need to de-program our emotional reaction patterns – the ones that developed when we were kids, or even as adults from repetitive stress. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can do this – relieve distressing feelings, as they occur, and create new pathways in the brain, replacing the old ways of reacting. EFT is an easy-to-learn, gentle method of clearing emotional distress that you’ll be able to use on your own, anywhere/anytime.
EFT has been used to provide rapid, lasting relief for a variety of emotional issues. This includes trauma, stress, guilt, anxiety, depression, fears, addictive cravings, and grief. Even the slightest emotional response to a situation can limit the ability to fully engage your talents. EFT can help clear these blockages and let you access your full potential. And, it’s understood now, how much our emotions contribute to illness—some say as much as 85% of all disease is linked with disruptive emotions.
How Does It Work?
EFT works with your body’s electrical system in a way that is similar to acupuncture—only without the needles. The basis of EFT is that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system. By tapping on specific points of your body’s energy channels, the meridians, while focusing on the issue, you will find the energy of the emotion collapse.
EFT tapping balances your body’s energy system and emotional distress is eliminated, when the electrical system is no longer disrupted. Tapping on specific acupoints clears the disturbance. In many cases the relief is instant and the distress does not recur. Where there are many aspects to a particular problem, the process takes longer. Re-living a trauma or any type of catharsis is not a necessary part of EFT. The need is only to tune in—think about the issue—and tap.
Is EFT evidence based and accepted as a standard practice?
We’re getting there. EFT has been highly controversial, for a number of reasons. For one thing, it’s hard to imagine how tapping on yourself can change a strong feeling. However, because so many have experienced its benefits, EFT is being rigorously researched and there is growing evidence in support of its efficacy. If you are interested in the scholarship of the issue, here’s a link to an excellent review by Dr. David Feinstein. …and, here’s an excellent presentation about Energy Psychology. Do you already know EFT, but need some help?
EFT is easy to learn, but you may find that working with a coach will get you further, faster.
On a personal note…
I have been using EFT for over fifteen years, personally and professionally. Learning EFT changed my life, and I believe it can help you change yours. As a creative arts–music–therapist and licensed professional counselor, with over 25 years’ experience, I have worked with adults and teens to heal from life’s challenges. Since I was introduced to EFT, it has become my “go to” technique. Nothing I have found equals it in simplicity and effectiveness. Once our disrupting thoughts and emotions are cleared, we are free to create affirmations that really work! With EFT we can discover and erase our limiting beliefs, and then open to our full potential. I welcome an opportunity to talk with you about how EFT can help you create the life you want.

A special note to performing artists and athletes…
I always thought you needed adrenalin to perform well. Wrong! I learned first-hand that joy is a much better chemical than the one used to save us from the saber tooth tiger.
Did you know…
that joy is a chemical neurotransmitter. It is manufactured in the body, just like adrenalin, insulin and serotonin.
My first time conducting a major concert was the true test. I had spent much of the day avoiding looking at the music, my old pattern of stress.
Then, remembering I have this tool, I set to work looking at what I was afraid of. It didn’t take long. After the show, I realized I had not had an ounce of fear. I had never had so much fun performing before.
Have you tried affirmations, but they just didn’t work?
Sometimes, the unconscious mind doesn’t believe or agree with the conscious mind (there are all kinds of reasons for that). You can find and eliminate these blocks, and then get on track. Meg will help you create an affirmation that really works.
Did you know…
that singing your affirmations amplifies the message in a big way? So much of the brain is engaged by music. Singing gets the message in deep and energizes, as well. Musically challenged? Let Meg create an mp.3 file for you.
